They have all turned aside, together they have become corrupt; There is no one who does good, not even one.
Psalm 14:3 (NASB)
The
foolish chorus of prideful, unregenerate man declares that there is no
God, and denies the irrefutable testimony of the created universe and
the inner witness of their own God-given consciences.
The
foolish denial of God’s existence by unregenerate man, generally
indicates someone who rejects his own accountability to God; refuses to
acknowledge the sovereignty of God; rejoices in his own prideful
rebellion against God and delights to declare that there is no God! The
man who boasts that he is the master of his own destiny – and that he,
and not the Lord is the captain of his own soul, is the one whom the
Lord calls a fool.
But the Lord looks
down from heaven upon the children of men, Whom He made in His own
image and likeness to see if there are any who show wisdom and
discernment by seeking after the Lord – Whose invisible finger-print
touches every aspect of God’s created universe and Who has lodged a
conscience in the heart of everyman, so that he may be able to discern
right from wrong . And in His goodness and grace God has also revealed
Himself fully and finally in the written Word of God and through the
life and work of the Lord Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son – Who died
to pay the price for the sin of the whole world..
But
the Psalmist bewails the fact that they have all turned aside and
together they have all become corrupt. And Paul quotes this Psalm of
David in the early chapters of Romans with the words: there is no one who does good – not even one. All have turned away and together they have all become corrupt.
David’s
appraisal of the human race in this Psalm is true of every unregenerate
member of the human race, as Paul clearly indicates in the early
chapter of his Roman epistle – for there is none that is good, not even
one. But God in His goodness and grace purposed before the foundation of
the world that He would redeem fallen man from the pit. Indeed, God
loved us so much that He gave His only begotten Son to come to earth to
suffer and die, in order to pay the enormous price for our sin – so that
we might be forgiven of our sin and receive eternal life.
How
astonishing that the fool continues to deny the existence of the Lord,
despite the external testimony of nature, the inner witness of our
conscience and the written Word of God. How shocking that so few hold
fast to the truth of the glorious gospel of grace – while so many
delight to speak with flattering lips and boastful tongues and to wallow
in the moral corruption of this God-hating, Christ-rejecting, sinful
world – denying the only means of salvation.
What an indictment on the humanity to hear God’s shocking assessment of the entire race, that: they have all turned aside, and together they have become corrupt. There is no one who does good, not even one.
But in the light of this incriminating assessment from our holy Creator
God, what a relief to know that this is not the final chapter of
mankind’s fall into sin.. for God in His grace has offered a way of
escape to all who will trust in the efficacious effects of Christ’s
saving blood, which was shed to pay the price for the sin of the whole
world – so that whosever will believe in His sacrificial work on
Calvary’s cross ..will be saved.
Prayer
Heavenly
Father, in the knowledge that mankind has fallen into such moral decay
we praise and thank You that in Your goodness and grace You prepared a
way of salvation for all who would trust in the death, burial and
resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sin and
life everlasting. We pray that while it is still today, many ‘fools’ who
have denied the existanc of Your Person and the truth of Your Word
would be convicted of their sins and turn to the Lord Jesus Christ.. for
the forgiveness os sin and life everlasting. This we ask in Jesus’
name, AMEN
